How it works:
The coaster is worked in spiral rounds without finishing slip stitches at the ends of the rounds. You will start with a magic ring. Beginning with the 2nd round, you will crochet into the third loop only. Each stitch has a front and back loop, where we normally work into. The third loop of a hdc appears behind and below of the back loop of the hdc. If you are not familiar with these technique, have a look onto the pictures.
- Work ch 2 and 8 hdc in a magic ring [= 8 sts].

Pull the magic ring tight.
How it works:
The coaster is worked in spiral rounds without finishing slip stitches at the ends of the rounds. You will start with a magic ring. Round 2:
- 2 hdc in every st around [= 16 sts].
Round 3:
- 1 hdc, 2 hdc in next st;
- rep from * to the end of the rnd [= 24 sts].
Round 4
- 1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st;
- rep from * to the end of the rnd [= 32 sts].
Round 5
- 1 hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st;
- rep from * to the end of the rnd [= 40 sts].
From now on, you will crochet in the third loop only of each hdc.
Round 2:
- 2 hdc in every st around [= 16 sts].
Round 3:
- 1 hdc, 2 hdc in next st;
- rep from * to the end of the rnd [= 24 sts].
Round 4
- 1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st;
- rep from * to the end of the rnd [= 32 sts].
Round 5
- 1 hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st;
- rep from * to the end of the rnd [= 40 sts].
Round 6
- 1 hdc, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts ;
- rep from * to 4 sts before end of the rnd, 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts [= 48 sts].
Round 7
- 1 hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st;
- rep from * to the end of the rnd [= 56 sts].
Round 8
- 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 6 sts ;
- rep from * to 5 sts before end of the rnd, 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts [= 64 sts].
Round 9: *
- 1 hdc in next 7 sts, 2 hdc in next st;
- rep from * to the end of the rnd [= 72 sts].
Round 10:
- 1 sc in every st around [= 72 sts], slst in the next st.
Round 6
- 1 hdc, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts ;
- rep from * to 4 sts before end of the rnd, 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts [= 48 sts].
Round 7
- 1 hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st;
- rep from * to the end of the rnd [= 56 sts].
Round 8
- 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 6 sts ;
- rep from * to 5 sts before end of the rnd, 2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts [= 64 sts].

Finishing
- Cut the yarn and invisibly close the last round.
