addi is known for bringing new products to the market every year. Not only extensions of already existing products, but often so-called real innovations.
Anyone who has been successfully producing needles since 1829 knows that you have to think about tomorrow today.

So entstehen bereits seit 1950 immer neue addi-Innovationen über die wir hier einen Überblick geben möchten.

Die Rundstricknadel
Die erste Rundstricknadel – zwei Nadelspitzen verbunden mit einem Seil – wird bei addi ab den 1950er Jahren aus Metallspitzen mit einem Metallseil produziert. Eine damals noch eher rauhe und hakelige Angelegenheit – da ohne die heute gleitenden Übergänge von Soitze zu Seil und einem Metallseil ohne Beschichtung.
Ein Nischenprodukt, welches erst in den kommenden Jahrzehnten zu seinem Durchbruch gelangen wird. Vorherschend wird zu dieser Zeit mit Jackennadeln gestrickt.
In den 1960er Jahren entsteht die weiterentwickelte Rundstricknadel mit durchsichtigem Perlonseil – elastischer und weicher beim Stricken ist das Seil weniger anfällig für Knicke und einrollen.
In den 1970er Jahren entsteht dann die innovative Knotentechnik, die den Übergang zwischen Nadel und Seil besonders glatt macht. Eine Technik, die bis heute die Rundstricknadeln perfekt verbindet.

Die klassische Rundstricknadel addiPremium Classic gibt es in ihrer Form bereits seit den 1980er Jahren.

Die Webstricknadel
Eine ganz neue Stricktechnik
Webstricken ist eine Kombination von Stricken und Weben, die neue Farb- und Musterkombinationen ermöglichte. Die Technik des Webstrickens entspricht der normalen Stricktechnik mit zwei Nadeln. Dabei kommen spezielle Nadeln zum Einsatz, die innen hohl sind.
Durch diesen Hohlraum der Nadeln wurden zwei zusätzliche Webfäden geführt. So konnten gleichzeitig bis zu drei verschiedene Farben
oder Materialien verarbeiten werden. Farben und Wollstärken konnten zu immer wieder zu neuen Ergebnissen führen. Grundsätzlich kann
jedes Strickmuster mit den Webstricknadeln gearbeitet werden.
Durch diesen Hohlraum der Nadeln wurden zwei zusätzliche Webfäden geführt. So konnten gleichzeitig bis zu drei verschiedene Farben
oder Materialien verarbeiten werden. Farben und Wollstärken konnten zu immer wieder zu neuen Ergebnissen führen. Grundsätzlich kann
jedes Strickmuster mit den Webstricknadeln gearbeitet werden.
addiColour
Der Häkelnadel-Klassiker mit Strukturiertem Griff aus Kunststoff – mit drehbarem Oberteil für einen individuell verstellbare Position in der Hand. Jede Stärke hat ihre eigene Farbe.
In dieser farbenfrohen Innovation steckt Erfahrung in der Produktion von Häkelnadeln seit 1829 und doch haben wir über die Jahrzente einige Kleinigkeiten optimiert:
Im Jahr 2000 wurde der Griff für einen angenehmeren Halt verlängert.
Zudem wird der weiße Griff heute aus recykeltem Kunststoff hergestellt.
2024 wurden zudem alle addi-Häkelnadelköpfe vollständig überarbeitet:
- Die Spitze ist noch spitzer geworden um das Einstechen in die Maschen zu erleichtern
- Die Kehle bzw. Einkerbung der Häkelnadel wurde zudem tiefer, so dass das Garn einfacher durch die Masche zurückgeführt werden kann.
- Die neue Oberfläche des Kopfes aus Aluminium ist eloxiert (vorher war sie weißbronziert) und zusätzlich gewachst – für eine ebenmäßig glatte Oberfläche.

addiExpress knitting machine
Kurbeln statt stricken für besonders schnelle und große Projekte
addiExpress knitting machines offer a wide range of knitting possibilities: from accessories to garments, carpets and decorations. Cranking can produce straight webs or rounds, which can be additionally shaped by increases or decreases. These panels or rounds can then be combined, patterned or sewn to create unique and effective knits.

The needle set with only three needles
2017 – this year goes down in history at addi. Because in this year, together with the multi-talented Sylvie Rasch/CraSy Sylvie, addi is revolutionizing knitting in rounds.
With the world novelty addiCraSyTrio, the 3-piece set of bendable needles, it is very easy to knit even the smallest diameters. This is made possible by the special flexibility of the middle part of the needle, which adapts to any hand. When knitting in rounds, the stitches are distributed on two needles and knitted with the third needle – so only two needle changes per round. Individual needles can also be used as cable pattern needles.

Square design for effortless holding and knitting
The ergonomic addi-Novel circular knitting needle has been on the market since 2019. The special thing about it – the square shape with rounded corners and a nubby structure and extra fine lace tips. This combination provides a special effect when knitting.
The Novel series provides a very even stitch pattern due to the nubs and the special shape and structure also provides a massage effect when knitting. This stimulates blood circulation and ensures less tension, even during several hours of knitting.

As a very fresh, fabulous innovation, the addiUnicorn complements our circular knitting needle range since this year.
The magic of the unicorn can be found again in two addi circular knitting needle tips and a pink rope in the popular addi quality. The noble, wavy structure of the unicorn massages the hands while knitting and the shiny and shimmering surface give the needle with basic tips a portion of elegance.

addi2go app
The app addi2go, which was presented for the first time in 2021, has also not been around that long. For several years, addi has been active on all major social channels with an increasing number of followers. Now the next step followed with the addi app.
Here you will not only find all the basic information about addi, but also practical tools, free instructions a row counter with voice function and all addi news, independent of social media.
Everything in one hand – not only on the needle – but also on the smartphone. New functions have been added in 2022. For example, the app is now also available in English, a personal project folder with notepad, a conversion function, various calculators and an extended row counter have been integrated.

Das patentierte Design (pat.pending) stammt von Louise und Adrian Grieves, die uns ihre Erfindung 2025 vorstellten. Das addi-Team war sofort begeistert und so entwickelten wir gemeinsam mit dem Erfinder-Ehepaar innerhalb eines Jahres einen Produktionsprozess – Made in Germany, of course.
