Crochet basket with wooden base
Basic round for variants 2 and 3
- For circles, you can start at any point. For ovals and triangles, it is best to start in the center of one of the straight sides.
- Pull a loop through any hole, leave end thread at least 20cm long and crochet 1 ch.
- Work 1 sl st in each hole all around the wooden bottom until only 1 hole is free.
- Pull the crochet hook out of the loop and pass the starting thread from the bottom through the still-free hole + the loop. Now pass the initial thread through the 1st ch and back from the top through the loop + pierce the same hole (see photos).
- Now no transition should be visible and a uniform sl st circulation should be formed.
- With this technique, you avoid unnecessary reattachment of the textile yarn, which is later quite difficult to sew.
Round 1
- For Variant 1, draw a loop through any hole and make 1 ch. For variant 2 and 3, facing sl st round, pull loop through starting hole. When doing so, for variation 2, poke through the hole above sl st, and for variation 3, poke through the hole through sl st (see photo).
- Now crochet a round of sc around the wooden base. Always pierce a hole. The last st of the round is a hdc. It is crocheted in spiral rounds, without sl sts at the end!
- In order to make the basket straight, the following increases are necessary (inc = crochet 2 sc in 1 hole):
- small (= 24 holes): inc evenly in 4 places (= 28 sts in 1st round).
- large (= 57 holes): inc evenly in 8 places (= 65 sts in 1st round).
- small (= 39 holes): inc evenly in 3 places of rounding (= 45 sts in 1st rnd).
- large (= 55 holes): inc evenly in 5 places of rounding (= 65 sts in 1st rnd).
Triangle
- small (= 35 holes): 3 sc in each hole at the corners and 2 inc evenly distributed at the curves (= 42 sts in the 1st round). For the rounding, the following sequence then results: 3 sc in the corner, 2 x (4 sc, inc), 4 sc, 3 sc in the corner.
- large (= 49 holes): 3 sc in each hole at the corners and 4 inc evenly distributed at the curves (= 59 sts in the 1st round). For the rounding, the following sequence then results: 3 sc in the corner, 2 x (3 sc, inc), 4 sc, 2x (inc, 3 sc), 3 sc in the corner.
Work basket: Round 2 and following
From here crochet an sc in each sc until the desired height is reached. Colors and patterns can be adjusted and tried at this point as desired. End at about the same point where the 1st round started. You don’t necessarily have to count or mark here. One st more or less is not noticeable.

Slip stitches to finish
Finishing
Cut the thread, and pull the loop until the end of the thread slips through the last stitch. Thread into an addiLoop sewing needle or sew with a crochet hook. As shown in photos, form an invisible round ending by passing the end thread through the following st and once more from the top into the last st. Weave in ends on the inside and fix invisibly with a small drop of textile glue if necessary.
