Greeting card crochet “Reindeer” with gift tag
A merry Christmas includes of course a few great gifts.
With this Christmas crocheted greeting card and the cute gift tag you provide a pretty eye-catcher under the Christmas tree. That makes unwrapping twice as much fun!

- 100% cotton – 114 yd/ 1.8 oz (125 m/50 g) (leftovers, max. 5 g per color) here in golden brown, petrol, coral, black and dark taupe.

This is how it works:
Crochet greeting card – the reindeer
Crochet the head, nose, and body of the reindeer in rounds with sc, hdc, dc and tr. Each round starts with a ch and ends with 1 sc in the 1st st of the round.
Antlers and scarf are crocheted in rows. The appliqués are glued on the greeting card. You can also sew the individual parts together and use them as a classic patch.
Crochet reindeer:
The reindeer consists of 7 individual parts (head, nose, body, 2 x horn and 2 x scarf)
Head
Crochet in rnds. Start with ch 9 in golden brown.
Start in the 3rd ch from the needle and work around the chain:
- Round 1: 2 hdc in first st, hdc 2, dc 2, tr 1, 5 dc in next st, tr 1, dc 2, hdc 2, 3 hdc in last st [=20 sts].

Round 2: sc 2, ch 4, 2 sc in 3rd ch, sc 6, inc 4, sc 5, ch 4, 2 sc in 3rd ch, sc 3. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
Crochet head
Head
Crochet in rnds. Start with ch 9 in golden brown.
Start in the 3rd ch from the needle and work around the chain:
- Round 1: 2 hdc in first st, hdc 2, dc 2, tr 1, 5 dc in next st, tr 1, dc 2, hdc 2, 3 hdc in last st [=20 sts].

Round 2: sc 2, ch 4, 2 sc in 3rd ch, sc 6, inc 4, sc 5, ch 4, 2 sc in 3rd ch, sc 3. Cut yarn and weave in ends.
Crochet head
Nose
Crochet in rnd with coral. Crochet the 1st rnd into a thread ring.

Make 5 sc in a magic ring.

Cut yarn and weave in ends .
Sew the nose to the bottom centre of the head.
Embroider two eyes right and left above the nose with leftovers in black.
Body
Ch 10 in golden brown.
Start in the 3rd ch from the needle and work around the chain:

Round 1: 3 dc in first st, dc 6, 7 dc in next st, dc 6, 4 hdc in last st [= 26 sts].

Round 2: inc 3, dc 6, inc 5, ch 8, crochet 7dc on ch chain from 2nd ch on hook, 10dc, 8ch, crochet 7 dc on ch chain from 2nd ch on hook, 2x 1dc.
Cut yarn and weave in ends .
Crochet body
Body
Ch 10 in golden brown.
Start in the 3rd ch from the needle and work around the chain:

Cut yarn and weave in ends .
Crochet body
Scarf
The scarf consists of 2 parts:
The short end and the long end – both worked in rows.
Short end:
Ch 7 in petrol. Slip first ch and work 1 hdc in every ch along the beginning ch [= 6 hdc].
Cut yarn and weave in ends.

Round 1: 6 htr.

Long end:
Ch 10 in petrol. Slip first ch and work 1 hdc in every ch along the beginning ch [= 9 hdc].
Cut yarn and weave in ends.

Scarf
The scarf consists of 2 parts:
The short end and the long end – both worked in rows.
Short end:
Ch 7 in petrol. Slip first ch and work 1 hdc in every ch along the beginning ch [= 6 hdc].
Cut yarn and weave in ends.

Long end:
Ch 10 in petrol. Slip first ch and work 1 hdc in every ch along the beginning ch [= 9 hdc].

Horn
- Work two times in rows with dark taupe.

Ch 10, turn and work back the chain:

Slip first st, sc 1 in 2nd ch from hook and every ch along (= 9 sc).
Cut yarn and weave in ends .
- Now place the needle into the ch at the back of the 4th sc of the 1st row and make 1 sl st.
- Now ch 4 and crochet sc 3 from the 2nd ch from the hook. End with an sl st in the ch at the back of the 3rd sc of the 1st round.
Crochet greeting card – finishing
Glue the parts of the reindeer onto the folded card as shown in the illustration. The parts may overlap – this gives the application a bit more depth.
When gluing, a pair of tweezers can be helpful for placing the individual parts.
For the gift tag, crochet and embroider the reindeer’s head and nose again. Then glue the finished crochet applique onto the tag.
