Since when do you knit or crochet?
“Since always. I learned to knit as a child from my grandma and have always knitted and crocheted with her or also my childminder. Then came the teen phase when it was kind of uncool and then in my mid-twenties I started again and kind of never stopped.”

How did you come to write a blog? What was your inspiration?
“The blog was initially just going to be a journal for me. A review of what I was crafting, knitting, cooking or otherwise creating. Then somehow more people showed interest in it than I expected and now www.jetztkochtsie.com has been around for almost 10 years.”

Do you notice increased interest since the COVID-19 pandemic?
“Definitely. People have time on their hands, want to do something useful with their hands, and knitting or crocheting comes naturally. I’m also noticing that more blogs are being read again, after there was currently a phase where blogs almost died out and almost everything was on social media. That’s changing again a little bit right now.”

You started a podcast. How did you get started on it? What was your inspiration here?
“Stefanie from Feierabendfrickeleien and I were incredibly fond of listening to podcasts ourselves. At that time, there were hardly any really regularly published podcasts on the topic of needlework in the German-speaking world. We wanted to fill this gap and have been doing so quite successfully for several years now, and we’re a bit proud that we’ve been able to encourage other people to podcast as well, or at least help them get started.”

What are topics on the podcast?
“Knitting, sewing, crochet, needlework, we have a section with the hot shit of the needlework world, there’s the opportunity to ask questions of us at Frag die Frickler, we report on events and happenings, and of course what promotions are available to participate in right now.”

Are there certain topics that are better received than others?
“Very popular is our Entertainment section, there we present what we are currently consuming while knitting, podcasts, series recommendations, movies, anything you can watch or listen to or read while knitting.
Basically, though, listeners just like our exchange, maybe also that we don’t always get everything perfect ourselves, that we put a lot of love and money into yarn and fabric, and that with us you can also just switch off and just listen.”

How do you see the topics of knitting and crochet in the future?
“Important. We live in uncertain and fast times, so it’s becoming more and more important to find a place to rest and relax. Handwork helps enormously with this. Recurring counting patterns provide security and peace of mind. Using our hands to really make something is something few of us do in a professional context by now, so there’s often something very satisfying about it as a hobby.”

Cool, right? Unfortunately, it is only in German, but interesting to hear about it.
