Tip for knitting a jumper:
Double-thread Cast-on
There are many variations for Cast-on. This double-thread cast-on is particularly decorative and hard-wearing:
- Unwind a yarn 4x as long as required for the desired sweater width from the ball of yarn. Work a loose eyelet and pull the end thread through this eyelet, then tighten the thread. The 1st stitch is on the needle and the end thread is fixed.
-
Tip: If the double thread is not sufficient for the stitch cast-on, hang a new thread in the loop at the end (as shown in the diagram) and continue working without interruption.
-
The thread that is placed over the index finger is single-ply and forms the sts on the needle. The yarn for the bottom edge is double threaded and is placed around the thumb.
-
After each stitch, change the yarn guide of the double thread over the thumb, as shown in the two drawings. The sts lie in pairs on the needle. Purl sts in the following row = back row to make the edge even more decorative.
-
If the yarn guide of the double thread is not changed, the result is a different look.
Bind-off edge (double thread):
- Towards row: purl, *knit 1, slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front, always repeat from *, purl. Back row: purl, *knit the slipped sts of the front row, slip the knitted sts of the front row, pull the yarn behind the sts, repeat from *. Knit all sts in a row to the right (single thread) and fasten off loosely.

How it works
Cable knit jumper - knit back part

-
Change to bigger neelde and work in cable pattern: selv st, 6 repeats of 26 (28) ((30)) sts, selv st.
-
Work straight up in this pattern.
-
After approx. 57 cm (22.4 in) = 160 rows of cable sts, fasten off all sts.
