Crochet summer hat
An individual summer hat in the right size protects your head from the sun and is a beautiful accessory. Made from strong yarn, it is quick to crochet and keeps its shape well.

Table of contents
What you need:
- Woolly Hugs Rope (140m/ 200g// 152yd/ 7oz) almost 2 balls
-
addi crochet hook 4,5 mm
-
Centimetre measure
-
Scissors
Size:
- The size is individually adjusted to the diameter of the head.
Gauge yarn Rope:
- 18 sts x 12r = 10x10 cm/4x4" (needle 6-8 mm/ US #J-L)
Step 1
Size calculation
To determine the correct size for the hat, calculate the diameter of the initial circle using the following formula:
Diameter = head circumference : pi (3.14) - 2 cm
Example: for a head circumference of 57 cm
57 cm : 3.14 - 2 cm = 16.1 cm diameter
Tip: The stitches are doubled at the beginning until the crocheted circle reaches the calculated diameter. Then continue crocheting in even rounds, without increases, to reach the desired height.
Step 2
Crochet a summer hat – step by step
Start at the top of the head and continue increasing until you reach the circumference of the head:
- Rd 1.: Magic Ring (MR)
- Rd 2.: works 6 single crochets (sc) in the ring
- Rd 3.: (1 sc, 1 increase (inc = double the stitch)) × 6 (12 sc)
- Rd 4.: (1 sc, 1 inc, 1 sc) × 6 (18 sc)
- Rd 5.: (3 sc, 1 inc) × 6 (24 sc)
- Rd 6.: (2 sc, 1 inc, 2 sc) × 6 (30 sc)
- Rd 7.: (5 sc, 1 inc) × 6 (36 sc)
- Rd 8.: (3 sc, 1 inc, 3 sc) × 6 (42 sc)
- Rd 9.: (7 sc, 1 inc) × 6 (48 sc)
- Rd 10.: (4 sc, 1 inc, 4 sc) × 6 (54 sc)
- Rd 11.: (9 sc, 1 inc) × 6 (60 sc)Rd
- 12.: (5 FM, 1 DM, 5 FM) × 6 (66 FM).
If the diameter has not yet been reached, continue doubling stitches. Then continue with the head piece.
Crochet rounds without increase:
- Rd. 13.–23.: 72 sc each

Final edge
- Insert into the stitch and pick up the yarn (2 loops on the hook).
-
Twist both loops on the hook by rotating the crochet hook slightly.
-
Pick up the working yarn and pull it through the twisted loops.
-
Repeat until the entire edge is finished.
