Our addi Straight Needles
Straight needles
Straight needles are long, straight knitting needles (20-40 cm/ 8″-16″) with one point. At the other end, the needles have a kind of button. This prevents the stitches from slipping off the needle at the end.
Straight needles are used to knit areas such as jumpers, jackets or scarves. However, they can only be used to knit pieces whose maximum width corresponds to the needle length.
Unlike circular needles, you can only knit in rows back and forth and the individual pieces have to be sewn together afterwards. Knitting in rows means that you cast off the stitches on the left needle and transfer them to the right needle. After a completed row, turn the knitting over and knit the back row.
In Germany, Straight needles do not play a major role in the popularity of knitters, but in South American countries and in southern European countries, for example, jacket needles are very popular.
