Weave a basket with paper addiShapes
This little basket is a great and quick upcycling project for your old needlework magazines. The technique is really easy and quick to learn. But watch out! There is a danger of addiction!
- addiShapes in any shape
- 1 old magazine or newspaper
- 1 addi jacket knitting needle 2,5 or 3,0mm
- Scissors
- (otional) some glue
Make paper rolls
First, make the material for your woven basket:
- To do this, open your magazine in the middle and remove the wire clips that are usually used.
- Now carefully remove the sides and fold them into thirds.
- With the tip of the knitting needle you can fold the crease. This way the sheet can be torn and you don't have to cut it.
- Now lay one third across in front of you and roll it up tightly from the bottom left using the knitting needle.
- At the end, apply a little glue to the last corner, stick it to the roll and pull the knitting needle out of the roll.

Attach vertical braces
Fold 12 rolls approximately in the middle and attach them as shown in the photos. The struts do not need to be fixed any further. It is helpful, however, if you choose the rolls that are twisted particularly tightly.

Basket weaving with paper
Lay two paper rolls parallel and place them around a vertical brace - see photos. Turn the two braiding struts to the left. You are now weaving clockwise.

Work all around, always swapping the position of the braid struts: The struts always lie alternately in front of or behind the vertical struts. Make sure that the change is always made in the same direction, e.g. the roll coming from the right is always crossed upwards over the other one (see photos below).
Attach a new paper roll
When the braided roll comes to an end, you can simply insert a new roll with the tip side a few centimetres deep into the funnel. Then continue braiding as usual.

Continue to the desired height
Continue weaving in this pattern until the basket has reached the desired height. The vertical struts should then still be at least 3 cm long or trimmed to this length.
The ends of the braided struts can simply be cut off.

Weave the edge of the basket
Now "hide" the ends: Insert one end at a time into the exit of the respective vertical neighbouring strut. It may help to widen the hole slightly with a thicker knitting needle or scissors.
If the struts keep slipping out of the holes, a small drop of glue will help. The initial struts inside the basket can simply be cut off. If necessary, a small drop of glue will help to fix them in place.
