This is how it works:
Back and front part
- Cast-on 240 (264, 288) sts.
-
Work 16 cm [6.3 in] of Ribbing pattern = 20 (22, 24) repeats.
-
Continue in Openwork pattern, working 1 repeat of rows 1-30, then repeat rows 11-30 continuously.
-
For the armholes, after 30 cm (11.8 inches) of Openwork pattern = after 77 rows = on row 18 of the chart after the transition from the previous row, bind off 11 sts, knit 109 (121, 133) stitches, bind off 11 sts, knit 109 (121, 133) sts.
Continue knitting the front and back pieces separately over these sts in rows.

Front
- For the armhole shaping, decrease 1 st on both sides every 2 rows (skpsso after the selvedge st at the beginning of the r and k2tog before the selvedge st at the end of the r), until there is 1 less repeat on each side = 87 (99, 111) sts = selvedge st, k1, 6 (7, 8) repeats, the sts after the repeat, k1, selvedge st.
-
For the V-neck, after 36 cm (14.2 inches) of Openwork pattern = 94 r/rnds, double the center stitch, divide the work and finish both sides separately.
-
For the neckline slope, decrease 1 sts on both sides every 2 rows as before, until 2 1/2 repeats are left. After 53 (53, 56.5) cm [21 (21, 22.2) in] = 138 (138, 148) r/rnds of Openwork pattern, bind off the 15 (21, 27) shoulder sts.
Back
- Work the armholes as for the front piece = 87 (99, 111) sts.
-
For the neckline after 41 cm [16 in] = 107 r/rnds of Openwork pattern, bind off the center 35 sts and finish both sides separately.
-
For the neckline slope, decrease 1 st on both sides every 2 rows (as for the front), until there is 1 less repeat. After 53 (53, 56.5) cm [21 (21, 22) in] = 138 (138, 148) r/rnds of Openwork pattern, bind off the 15 (21, 27) shoulder sts.
Finishing
- Close the shoulder seams. For the neckline band, pick up 172 (172, 192) sts – neckline slope: 45 (45, 51) sts each + 1 center st, back neckline: 81 (81, 89) sts.
-
P 1 rnd, k 3 rnds. While at the front center, in each rnd, k2tog before the center st, and after the center st, skpsso.
-
Bind off all sts using knit sts.
-
For the armhole band, pick up 100 (100, 112) sts each, p 1 rnd, k 3 rnds, then bind off all sts using knit sts.
Weave in ends, wash, and block the finished top.
