Knitting Cascade Jumper
This intarsia patterned ribbed jumper is ideal for fall. Made from 100% merino wool, it is soft, airy, and not too warm for moderate temperatures. Instructions by Scheppjes.

Knit a jumper
How it works
Hinweise zur Anleitung:
Jumper is worked flat from bottom up. Use intarsia technique for Chevron Patt; use separate balls for each colour section and twist yarns at colour changes to avoid holes.
When working Chevrons on Back and Front, adjust central colour area by working 2 sts more at each side of colour change in each row. This means that compared to previous row, first colour is worked for 2 sts less, the central colour is worked for 4 sts more and last colour is worked for 2 sts less. For Sleeves, yarn colour changes happen at same time as
Sleeve shaping.
Neckband sts are picked up and worked in the round; when working from st holders, continue in patt as set from worked back sts.
Double Rib Pattern
- Row 1 (RS): (P2, k2) to last 2 sts, p2.

Row 2 (WS): K2, (p2, k2) to end.

These 2 rows form patt and are repeated.
Step 1
Knit back
Using Yarn A and 4mm needles, cast on 130 (138: 150: 158: 166: 174) sts. Work in Double Rib Patt until work measures 5cm, ending with a WS row. Change to 4.5mm needles.
Continue in Double Rib Patt throughout as set, and at the same time, work intarsia Chevron Patt as follows:
First chevron
- Row 1 (RS) With Yarn B patt 64 (68: 74: 78: 82: 86) sts, with Yarn C patt 2 sts, with Yarn B patt 64 (68: 74: 78: 82: 86) sts.

- Row 1 (RS) With Yarn B patt 64 (68: 74: 78: 82: 86) sts, with Yarn C patt 2 sts, with Yarn B patt 64 (68: 74: 78: 82: 86) sts.

As before, work 2 more sts with Yarn C on each side of central sts on every row until there are no sts worked in Yarn B.

Using Yarn C, work 1 (1: 0: 0: 0: 0) rows straight in patt.

There are 78 (80: 84: 86: 90: 92) rows worked in total from start of First Chevron.

Continue with Yarn C only and in Double Rib Patt as set. Mark each end of next row with sm for armholes.**

Continue straight in patt until Back measures 52 (54: 56: 58: 60: 62)cm, ending with a WS row.
Shape shoulders
- Continue in patt, cast off 6 (7: 7: 8: 8: 9) sts at beg of next 4 (12: 4: 12: 8: 12) rows. [106 (54: 122: 62: 102: 66) sts]

Cast off 7 (0: 8: 0: 9: 0) sts at beg of next 8 (0: 8: 0: 4: 0) rows.

Leave remaining sts on holder. [50 (54: 58: 62: 66: 66) sts]


Step 1
Knit back

Step 2
Front part
Work as given for Back to **. Continue straight in patt until Front measures 45 (47: 49: 50: 52: 54)cm, ending with a WS row.
Divide for Front Neck:
- Next row (RS) Patt 50 (52: 56: 58: 60: 64) sts, turn and work on these sts for Left Front Neck, leaving remaining sts on holder.
Shape Left Front Neck
- Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 rows. [46 (48: 52: 54: 56: 60) sts]

Work 12 rows, dec 1 st at neck edge on every RS row. [40 (42: 46: 48: 50: 54) sts]
-
Continue straight in patt until Front measures same as Back before shoulder shaping, ending with a WS row.
Shape Left Shoulder:
Cast off remaining sts as follows:
- cast off 6 (7: 7: 8: 8: 9) sts at beg of next 2 (6: 2: 6: 4: 6) RS rows,
- then cast off 7 (0: 8: 0: 9: 0) sts at beg of next 4 (0: 4: 0: 2: 0) RS rows.
Shape Right Neck
- With RS facing, place centre 30 (34: 38: 42: 46: 46) sts on holder,

rejoin yarn at neck edge and patt to end. [50 (52: 56: 58: 60: 64) sts]
-
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 rows. [46 (48: 52: 54: 56: 60) sts]
-
Work 12 rows, dec 1 st at neck edge on every RS row. [40 (42: 46: 48: 50: 54) sts]

Continue straight in patt until Front measures same as Back before shoulder shaping, ending with a RS row.
Shape Right Shoulder
Cast off remaining sts as follows:
- cast off 6 (7: 7: 8: 8: 9) sts at beg of next 2 (6: 2: 6: 4: 6)

WS rows, then cast off 7 (0: 8: 0: 9: 0) sts at beg of next 4 (0: 4: 0: 2: 0) WS rows.
Step 3
Sleeve (make 2)
With 4mm needles and Yarn A, cast on 58 (62: 62: 66: 66: 70) sts.
- Work in Double Rib Patt for 4cm, ending with a WS row.

Change to 4.5mm needles.

Continue in Double Rib Patt for 4 more rows.
Shape Sleeve and Change Colours
Read ahead, sleeve shaping is worked at same time as colour changes
- Inc row (RS) In patt, inc 1 st in first st, patt to last st, inc 1 st in last st.

Work 5 (5: 5: 5: 3: 3) rows straight.
-
Rep last 6 (6: 6: 6: 4: 4) rows until you have 90 (94: 98: 104: 110: 114) sts and working new sts in patt

then work straight in patt as set until Sleeve measures 47 (47: 46: 46: 46: 46)cm, ending with a WS row
AT THE SAME TIME
- when work measures 10cm from cast-on edge, change to Yarn B and when work measures 30cm from cast-on edge change to Yarn C.
Shape Sleeve Cap
- Continue in patt and Yarn C, cast off 30 (32: 32: 34: 36: 38) sts at beg of next 2 rows. [30 (30: 34: 36: 38: 38) sts]

Cast off in patt.
Step 4:
Neckband
Join both shoulder seams.
With RS facing, 4mm circular needles and Yarn C
- work in Double Rib Patt as set across 50 (54: 58: 62: 66: 66) sts from back holder

pick up and work 24 (24: 24: 28: 28: 28) sts in Double Rib Patt along left neck
-
work in Double Rib Patt as set across 30 (34: 38: 42: 46: 46) sts from front holder,
-
and pick up and work 24 (24: 24: 28: 28: 28) sts in Double Rib Patt along right neck. [128 (136: 144: 160: 168: 168) sts]
Join to work in the round and place marker for beg of round.
- Continue in Double Rib Patt as set for 10cm.

Cast off in patt.
Step 5:
Finishing
- Insert sleeve caps between sm and sew in place.

Sew sleeve and side seams.

Weave in all ends and block to measurements.
