Crank addiExpress Kingsize scarf
Quickly cranked, the large addiExpress Kingsize knitting machine creates a cosy, warm scarf for cooler days. The length and finish can be customised as desired.

Whether pom-poms, fringes or knitted edges - many techniques are possible in combination with the hand crank machine.
A scarf with bobbles is very simple and a perfect beginner's project with a knitting machine. However, a crocheted finish or a hand-knitted cuff are also possible.
Yarn recommendations for shawls:
- Double ply Sock yarn 4-ply, 6-ply or 8-ply - gives a rather solid result

Merino and blended yarns (60-100 m/ 50 g - 65-110 yd/ 1.8 oz, needle 5-7, US 8-11) - soft and stretchy

Gauge and length
Calculate the desired length with a gauge:
Crank a small sample piece with the desired yarn beforehand and lay it flat on the table. Use a gauge counting frame to determine the stitches and rows on 10×10 cm (4x4“). These values can be used to calculate the exact size (in this case the length). You can use, for example, the gauge calculator in our addi2go app to calculate.
The information in these instructions refers to a thicker yarn with a gauge of 21 stitches and 14 stitches on 10×10 cm (4x4").
Desired length:
- Short scarf (1 x tight wrap) approx. 150 cm/ 59" = 315 rounds

Medium scarf (wrap 1-2 times) approx. 200 cm/ 79" = 240 rounds

Long scarf (wrap 2-3 times) approx. 280 cm/ 110" = 580 rounds
The title model has a length of 2 m.

Variant 1 - scarf with drawn ends
- For the version with bobbles and drawn ends, simply start with the single crochet cast-on on needle 1 in the round (as described in the machine's basic instructions, see app or enclosed booklet)
- For the length, work approximately 315/420/580 rounds in the round (with a gauge of 21 stitches and 14 stitches on 10×10 cm), see tip.

To finish, end in front of needle 1 (black) and cut the end thread after approx. 50 cm.

Pull the end thread into the darning needle and pick up all the stitches cranked without yarn with the needle and lift them off the machine.

Repeat this for the entire round until the scarf has been thrown off.

Pull the end of the thread and sew the pulled end together with a few stitches. Do not cut the thread yet - it can be used to secure the bobble.
Optional for variant 1: Wrap the bobble
Two large pompoms can be wound to finish off the pulled-together scarf. This is very easy with the addiMoon pompom makers.
- To do this, wrap the ring set in the desired size (preferably 8 cm for the wide scarf) with the remaining yarn from the scarf (or in contrasting colours if desired).

Both halves are then folded together and closed.

Now use the scissors to cut all the threads between the two halves of the circle.

Then wrap a strip of yarn (approx. 30 cm) through the cut and knot it tightly several times.

Open the halves of the circle and trim the finished pompom a little with the scissors.
Finally, sew the pom-poms to the ends of the scarf - finished.
Optional for variant 1: Wrap the bobble

Variant 2 - Scarf with straight edge
- Cast on the round with a remaining yarn in a contrasting colour (as described in the machine's basic instructions, see app or enclosed booklet) and work approx. 6 rounds.
- Cut the thread before the first black needle and leave a short section hanging in the centre.
- Then change to the desired yarn for the scarf and place it in the yarn guide.

For the length, crank about 315/420/580 rounds.

To finish, stop in front of needle 1 (black) and remove the thread from the holder. Cut off after approx. 20 cm and leave hanging in the centre in front of the black needle.

Now crank another 6 rounds with remaining yarn

Then simply crank two rounds without yarn to cast off the knitted fabric (do not sew).
Finally, the ends of the scarf (in the colour of your choice) are sewn, knitted or crocheted as you like. Afterwards, the waist yarn is ribbed.
We introduce a simple crochet variant in the next step.
Variant 2: Crochet edges
The purl stitches in the colour of the scarf (red in the photo) are now crocheted together as follows:
Tip: The end thread of the scarf needs to lie at the end (here on the left) - start crocheting at the opposite end (right).
- Insert into the outermost stitch (bottom) in the colour of the scarf (red), then insert into the outermost stitch on the opposite side (top, red) and pull the second stitch through the first.

Now alternate one stitch of the front edge (bottom) and one stitch of the back edge (top) until the edge is closed.

Finish the edge by pulling the long end thread (purl) through the last stitch.
The supporting yarns are finally removed, leaving a closed edge.
