Tip: For the St Nicholas pattern, cast on socks as normal (number of stitches divisible by 6), but cast on slightly more stitches than usual, as the sock will be slightly tighter due to the crossed threads on the back.
Keep the threads as loose as possible when knitting to prevent the knitted fabric from becoming too tight.

Knitting jacquard patterns: What you should know

What is a jacquard pattern?
  • Jaquard pattern means that a two-coloured pattern is knitted with two threads that are alternately knitted off according to the pattern chart.
  • The thread that is not being knitted should be crossed once every 3-4 sts with the knitted thread on the back of the piece. You can find out how to do this here in Sylvie Rasch's video (german).
Tip: Knitting two-colour patterns is made easier, especially for beginners, with a yarn ring like addi2You because there is enough space between the two yarns. If your yarn tension is too loose, the yarns can also be wrapped around the eyelets once. It is important that both yarns are evenly tensioned so that the pattern is even and the knitted piece does not become too tight on the inside and no longer fits because the tensioning yarns are too tight.
