Knit a linen summer slipover
A light and loose summer top made from linen yarn is comfortable to wear even on warm days. The slipover is knitted classically from the front and back from the bottom up. Instructions from LANG.
Linen yarn LANGYARNS LINO:
- 300/350/400 g = 6/7/8 balls of steel 784.0010. LANGYARNS /
Knitting needles addiNature Bamboo circular knitting needle:
- 3,5 mm and 4 mm (from 60 cm)
- 1 short circular knitting needle 3.5 (US 4) approx. 40 cm (16")
Gauge (stockinette): 19 stitches x 30 rows
Gauge (pattern II): 22 stitches x 27 rows

Pattern II
Knitted with 4 mm (US 6) circular needles:
Work cables according to the pattern
The chart shows the RS rows, on WS rows work sts as they face you, purl the yarn overs. The chart does not include edge sts, work 1 edge st at the beginning and end of each row.
Repeat rows 1 – 4.
Tip 1: Concerning the squares marked in grey on the chart: for sizes S & XL work p1 instead of yo Grösse S + XL statt eines U nur 1 M li str.
Tip 2: After decreasing continue to work in pattern, at the beginning and end of the row only work a yarn over if there is a corresponding dec, otherwise work the sts in Stockinette (k pn RS, p on WS).
Pattern II
Knitted with 4 mm (US 6) circular needles:

Back
For the back panel cast on 110/124/134 sts with US 4 (3.5 mm) needles and work in pattern I (k1, p1).
Rep rows 1 & 2 until ribbing measures 2” (5 cm). Change to US 6 (4 mm) needles, begin working charted Lace Cable pattern, decreasing 1 st on the first row:
k1 (edge st), start the chart at arrow A/B/A , work the pattern repeat 4/4/5 times, work to arrow a/b/a, k1 (edge st).
Continue with 109/123/133 sts, work even until back measures 11¾”/11”/10¼” (30/28/26 cm).
Shape armholes
Bind off 2 sts
- Left side (WS): Continue to work in pattern, bind off 5/6/7 sts for shoulder and work to end, bind off 2 sts as smoothly as possible at beginning of the next RS row (neck edge), bind off 5/6/7 sts at beginning of the next WS row, bind off 1 st at beginning of the next RS row, then bind off 5/6/7 sts on the next 2 WS rows.
- then 1 st at beginning of the following 20/22/22 rows (tip 2)
When all armhole decreases have been completed you will have 85/97/107 sts. Continue working until armhole measures 8¾”/9½”/10¼” (22/24/26 cm).
Shape shoulders:
Please read through the next section carefully before starting to knit: you will be shaping the shoulders and neck at the same time, so will need to keep track of bind off sts at each edge separately. For shoulder bind off work as follows:
- 5 sts 4 times
- 6 sts 4 times
- 7 sts 4 times
Neckline: Next row (RS): bind off 5/6/7 sts for shoulder, work in pattern to first marker then leave these sts on a holder for right side, remove marker and bind off the next 39/43/45 sts for neck, remove marker and work to end.
- Left side (WS): Continue to work in pattern, bind off 5/6/7 sts for shoulder and work to end, bind off 2 sts as smoothly as possible at beginning of the next RS row (neck edge), bind off 5/6/7 sts at beginning of the next WS row, bind off 1 st at beginning of the next RS row, then bind off 5/6/7 sts on the next 2 WS rows.
- Right side: slip the sts from the holder back onto your needle and with WS facing and work to end, bind off 5/6/7 sts at beginning of the next RS row, bind off 2 sts as smoothly as possible at beginning of the next WS row (neck edge), bind off 5/6/7 sts at beginning of the next RS row, bind off 1 st at beginning of the next WS row, finally bind off 5/6/7 sts on RS.
Shape shoulders:

Front part

Shape neck
When front measures 17“ (43 cm) mark the 17/21/23 center sts:
- Next row (RS): work to the first marker and leave these sts on a holder for the right side, remove marker, bind off 17/21/23 center sts, remove marker and work to end. Now work each side separately, turn your work continue with the left side as follows:
- Left side (WS): work to end, bind off 3 sts as smoothly as possible at the beginning of the next 2 RS rows (neck edge) whilst continuing to work WS rows as normal, then bind off 2 sts at beginning of the next 2 RS rows, 1 st at beginning of foll 3 RS rows and 1 st again on the next alternate RS row.
- Left side (WS): work to end, bind off 3 sts as smoothly as possible at the beginning of the next 2 RS rows (neck edge) whilst continuing to work WS rows as normal, then bind off 2 sts at beginning of the next 2 RS rows, 1 st at beginning of foll 3 RS rows and 1 st again on the next alternate RS row.
- Shape shoulder at the same length and in same way as for back. Right side: With WS facing, take the sts from the holder onto your needles and work to end, work 1 RS row and continue working RS rows as normal, bind off 3 sts as smoothly as possible at the beginning of the next 2 WS rows (neck edge), then 2 sts at beginning of the next 2 WS rows, 1 st at beginning of the foll 3 WS rows and 1 st again on the next alternate WS row. Shape shoulder at the same length and in same way as for back.
Shape shoulders:
Slant the shoulders at the same height as on the back. At 22/24/26 cm armhole height, bind off every 2nd row on both sides:
- 5 sts 4 times
- 6 sts 4 times
- 7 sts 4 times

Finishing
Sew seams.
Neckband: With the circular needle, pick up 118/122/128 sts around neck opening
- back = 54/56/59 sts
- front = 64/66/69 sts
Join to work in the round, place a marker for beginning of rnd. Purl 1 rnd, then work Rib st in the rnd: *k1, p1, rep from * around. When neckband measures 1¼“ (3 cm) loosely bind off all sts in pattern.
Armhole borders: With the circular needle, pick up 74/82/90 sts around each armhole. Join to work in the round, place a marker for beginning of rnd. Purl 1 rnd, then work Rib st in the rnd: *k1, p1, rep from * around. When border measures 1¼“ (3 cm) loosely bind off all sts in pattern. Weave in ends. Block as desired.
