Klassisches Stirnband

Pen posture

Here the crochet hook is held like a pen in the right hand. Straight crochet hooks are very suitable for the pencil position.

Thread holding 1

The continuous working thread is clamped between the left little finger and the ring finger and loosely wrapped around the index finger once or twice, depending on preference. This helps to determine the thread tension and makes the thread easier to crochet off. There are other ways of holding the thread - for the beginning this one is quite sufficient.

The distance to the crochet project should not be too close and not too far away (approx. 5 cm). The crochet piece is held with the thumb and middle finger of the left hand while crocheting. The crochet hook is in the right hand in the knife or pencil position.

Now fix the point where the thread crosses with your thumb and forefinger and use the crochet hook to bring the back working thread through the ring that has been created.

Pull the loop tight enough so that it is not too loose around the crochet hook.

Next, pull the wrap through the initial loop onto the crochet hook, creating a new loop. The air stitch forms a V-shaped loop under the crochet hook.

If this process is repeated, pull the working thread through the loop with a wrap, a so-called chain of air stitches is formed.

The working thread is pulled from the back to the front through the stitching point.

This puts two loops on the crochet hook.

Next, bring the working thread onto the needle with a wrap and pull it through the two loops on the crochet hook.

Now work a solid stitch in each further air stitch according to the same principle. This makes 10 solid stitches and the first row is done.

For the 2nd row, turn the crochet piece over and crochet another solid stitch on top of each solid stitch from left to right, so that there are 10 solid stitches in total again. The point of insertion is exactly under the V-shaped legs of the stitch.

The headband now grows row by row with solid stitches. Crochet as many rows until the band is long enough to fit around the head.

Variant 1 - plain

For a plain headband, sew the short sides together with the cut working thread flat with a wool needle.

Variant 2 - with twist

To give the headband a twist, turn the headband in once before sewing the short sides together.

Variation 3 - with gathering

The gathering is created by first sewing the short sides of the headband flat together, as with the plain version. Then gather the headband at the seam by hand and fix it with a few stitches.

Variant 4 - with wrapping

For the wrap, cut the working thread considerably longer or use the entire remaining ball. In this case, close the headband as for the plain version, then gather it at the closing seam and wrap it with the remaining working thread.
