What is a classic double-pointed needle?

The classic double-pointed needle (also called DPN or sock knitting needles) consists of five individual needles with two points each and is used to knit small diameters such as cuffs and socks. Double-pointed needle are available in different materials such as bamboo or aluminium.

When knitting with double-pointed needles, work in rounds and divide the knitted object between four needles and knit off with the fifth. Unlike Circular knitting needles so you tend to use stocking needles for smaller knitting projects that are knitted in rounds. addi double-pointed needles are made from various materials such as steel, aluminium, plastic and our special High quality bamboo made. Which material they choose for their project depends on personal preference, but also on the yarn used.

• Aluminium: particularly light, perfectly smooth and stable, but flexible, it adapts to the hand. Available with blunt basic lace or with fine lace lace.
• Bamboo:Particularly light and warm to the touch, it also bends easily. Available with basic tips. The natural surface means the stitches slip off the needle less quickly.
• Steel: Very stable and perfectly smooth even in very thin thicknesses. Available with basic tips
• Plastic: Particularly light in large thicknesses due to the hollow space inside. A perfectly smooth surface that warms up quickly in the hand. Available with basic tips from 7 mm

Depending on the project, different thicknesses and lengths are needed. Our double-pointed needles are available in thicknesses from 1.25 mm (steel) to 20 mm diameter (plastic) in different lengths from 10 cm (aluminium) to 25 cm (plastic).
