Beniko summer waistcoat
The Beniko jacket is a lightweight summer jacket with a loose fit. Knitted from ANANAS yarn, it is comfortable to wear on warm days. A pattern by Lang Yarns.
- Langyarns Ananas 300/400 g = 6/8 balls
- curry 1159.0077 or camel 789.0039
- addi knitting needle size US 1.5 (2.5 mm) and 4 (3.5 mm) needles
- 1 long circular needle, size US 1.5 (2.5 mm)
- 3 buttons
Size EU: S – M / L – XL
- bust: 47¼“/53½“ (120/136 cm)
- length: 19“/20“ (48/51 cm)
- 22 M x 30 R = 10 x 10 cm
Back
- Cast on 159/179 sts with US 1.5 (2.5 mm) needles and work in rib:
- Rep rows 1 & 2 once more, then change to US 4 (3.5 mm) needles.
- Continue with 134/152 sts, work even until back measures 3¼“ (8 cm) from the cast-on.
- Begin working stockinette st, decreasing over the first row:
- Every 6th row: increase 3 × 1 stitch,
- every 4th row: increase 2 × 1 stitch,
- every 2nd row: increase 2 × 1 stitch,
- then increase
- 3 × 2 stitches,
- 2 × 3 stitches,
- inc 4 sts once,
- and 1 × 7 stitches = 196/214 stitches total.
- Now work the 4 sts before and after the edge st in patt, working on the RS: after the edge st begin with 1 k1-below, and on the left edge end before the edge st with 1 k1-below.
- When back measures 6¾”/7½” (42/45 cm) from the cast-on, begin shoulder shaping, mark center 34/40 sts for neck, with 81/87 sts each side.
- At the same time, shape the neckline.
- At the same time, begin neck shaping when back measures 17¾”/19” (45/48 cm).

Tip: Right edge: work an emphasized decrease. 1 Rdm, 1 M re, 2 M re zus-str. Li Kante: 1 übz Abn (= 1 M abh, 1 M re str, die abgeh M über die gestr M ziehen), 1 M re, 1 Rdm.
Back
- Cast on 159/179 sts with US 1.5 (2.5 mm) needles and work in rib:
- Rep rows 1 & 2 once more, then change to US 4 (3.5 mm) needles.
- Continue with 134/152 sts, work even until back measures 3¼“ (8 cm) from the cast-on.
- Begin working stockinette st, decreasing over the first row:
- Every 6th row: increase 3 × 1 stitch,
- every 4th row: increase 2 × 1 stitch,
- every 2nd row: increase 2 × 1 stitch,
- then increase
- 3 × 2 stitches,
- 2 × 3 stitches,
- inc 4 sts once,
- and 1 × 7 stitches = 196/214 stitches total.

- Rep rows 1 & 2 once more, then change to US 4 (3.5 mm) needles.
- Begin working stockinette st, decreasing over the first row: sl1 (edge st), k5, k2tog, * k8/5, k2tog, rep from * to the last 7 sts, knit to end – 11/13 sts decreased.
- Every 6th row, inc 1 st 3 times.
- every 4th row: increase 2 × 1 stitch,
- inc 2 sts 3 times,
- inc 3 sts 2 times,
- inc 4 sts once,
- and CO 7 sts once = 95/103 sts total.
- Now arrange sts with half brioche rib at beginning of the row for cuff: sl1 (edge st), 4 sts half brioche rib (beginning with k1 below), work in stockinette to end, k1 (edge st).
- When front measures 10¼“/10¾“ (26/27 cm) from the cast-on, dec at left edge for neck shaping:
- Shape the shoulder at the same height at the right edge and in the same way as for the back piece.
- Knit to mirror the left front.
Left front
- Cast on 75/85 sts with US 1.5 (2.5 mm) needles and work in rib:
- Rep rows 1 & 2 once more, then change to US 4 (3.5 mm) needles.
- Begin working stockinette st, decreasing over the first row: sl1 (edge st), k5, k2tog, * k8/5, k2tog, rep from * to the last 7 sts, knit to end – 11/13 sts decreased.
- Every 6th row, inc 1 st 3 times.
- every 4th row: increase 2 × 1 stitch,
- inc 2 sts 3 times,
- inc 3 sts 2 times,
- inc 4 sts once,
- and CO 7 sts once = 95/103 sts total.
- Now arrange sts with half brioche rib at beginning of the row for cuff: sl1 (edge st), 4 sts half brioche rib (beginning with k1 below), work in stockinette to end, k1 (edge st).
- When front measures 10¼“/10¾“ (26/27 cm) from the cast-on, dec at left edge for neck shaping:
- Shape the shoulder at the same height at the right edge and in the same way as for the back piece.
- Knit to mirror the left front.
Finishing
- Close seams. Closing band: With the circular needle, pick up 273/289 sts along front edges as follows:
- from lower edge to V-neck = 59/61 sts,
- V-neck = 48/52 sts, back = 59/63 sts,
- V-neck = 48/53 sts,
- At the same time, in the WS row, begin after the edge stitch with k1, p1 and end in the opposite way.
- At 1.5 cm band height, work 3 buttonholes into the right button band as follows:
- 1 edge st, work 3 sts in pattern, bind off the next 3 sts without working yarn and immediately cast on 3 new sts.
- Repeat this buttonhole twice more with 22 sts between each, then work the row to the end.
- When closing band measures 1¼“ (3 cm) bind off all sts loosely, in pattern. Sew on buttons. Weave in ends. Block as desired.
Finishing
- Close seams. Closing band: With the circular needle, pick up 273/289 sts along front edges as follows:
- from lower edge to V-neck = 59/61 sts,
- V-neck = 48/52 sts, back = 59/63 sts,
- V-neck = 48/53 sts,
- At the same time, in the WS row, begin after the edge stitch with k1, p1 and end in the opposite way.
- At 1.5 cm band height, work 3 buttonholes into the right button band as follows:
- 1 edge st, work 3 sts in pattern, bind off the next 3 sts without working yarn and immediately cast on 3 new sts.
- Repeat this buttonhole twice more with 22 sts between each, then work the row to the end.
- When closing band measures 1¼“ (3 cm) bind off all sts loosely, in pattern. Sew on buttons. Weave in ends. Block as desired.
